How much does AI short-form video cost?

A sixty-second Short does not have to contain sixty seconds of generated video. That distinction can change a monthly production budget more than choosing a cheaper subscription. Start with the finished output you need, then decide which seconds actually need to be generated.

Separate finished minutes from generated seconds

For 30 videos of 60 seconds each, you are publishing 30 minutes of finished content. A 50% AI video share asks the model to create 15 usable minutes. The remaining time must come from your recordings, existing assets or editing. Those materials need to exist; lowering the AI share does not create them for you.

Our estimate groups generated footage into five-second clips for planning, then adds an adjustable attempt allowance. At 1.25 attempts, each 60-second output with 50% AI footage requires eight planned clips, or 40 billed seconds. Across 30 outputs that becomes 1,200 seconds. This rounding is a conservative model assumption, not a claim about every provider’s billing system.

What a realistic short-form workflow includes

Write the hook and script first. Mark the exact sentences that benefit from an original visual, and generate only those shots. Record or source the rest before committing to a tool purchase. This lets you find gaps in the story while changes are still cheap.

Generate a small pilot, review the usable clips and then set your attempt factor for the month. A repeatable talking-head format and an ambitious cinematic sequence should not share an assumed success rate. Add narration, assemble the final timeline and review captions manually. Editing time and caption work are outside the software estimate below.

How Budget Rescue changes the plan

If the original plan exceeds your budget, the calculator tests lower AI shares while preserving the output count, duration and attempt factor. A rescued plan is a different production approach: the missing generated footage must be replaced by your material. It is not the same fully generated video at a magically lower price.

Compare the cash payment with metered usage. A minimum credit purchase can make a small project cost more today than the material it consumes. The balance left over is useful for future work, but it is still money you need to spend now.

When the cheapest option is the wrong choice

Check your publishing requirements before comparing prices. If you need verified commercial rights, private generation or character consistency, switch on that requirement. An unsupported tool is excluded even if it is free.

Resolution and quality scores also need judgment. The score in this calculator is an internal comparison aid. It does not measure audience retention, realism or brand suitability. Use the estimate to narrow the options, then judge a small real sample before producing the entire month.

Metered usage: $66.90. Additional payment: $66.90. The payment includes new subscription fees and minimum API purchases. It may exceed metered usage. The original brief exceeds the target budget.

Runway API: $66.90 to pay; $0.00 API credit remaining after this project.

Budget Rescue example: reducing AI video to 25% produces a candidate requiring $36.90 in additional payment. You supply the replacement footage. Output count and duration stay the same.

Tax, labor, stock assets and distribution are excluded. The free voice option, where shown, is noncommercial. No commercial or privacy requirement is assumed in these examples. The influencer preset additionally requires supported character consistency. See the full calculation rules.

Common questions

Can I create 30 AI Shorts for $50?

Some mixed-media plans fit that budget under the assumptions shown below. A fully generated workflow may not. Use your own attempt rate and check what footage must be supplied manually.

Does ChatGPT Plus pay for the video generation?

No. Here it is an existing tool for manual script preparation. It does not supply Runway API credits or another provider’s quota.

Are free voice plans suitable for commercial Shorts?

Not automatically. The catalog treats ElevenLabs Free as noncommercial; enabling the commercial-rights requirement excludes it.
